Enchantress

2017 - Ongoing
Every year or two, photographer Elle Brotherhood and I work on our collaborative project. We each start with a roll of film (Kodak Portra 400, a film stock we love dearly) and we shoot self portraits on the first 18 frames, and then anything we like on the second 18 frames. We then exchange the undeveloped films by post or in person, and then put the other’s film back in our camera. We then start again, but switch it around, this time shooting the first 18 exposures of anything, and on the second half of the film we shoot self portraits. What comes out of the film are in part self portraits, but also mysterious portraits of each other. Images of ourselves overlaid with unplanned shapes and textures, the images are always a surprise as nothing is planned or discussed before hand. It is a project close to our hearts, and one we will continue to work on throughout our lives, a gentle way of documenting how our bodies change and our ideas evolve.
